Thu Oct 18, 2012, 06:09 PStephen J.Olexo, 72, Nanty Glo, died Oct. 17, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Sept. 28, 1940, in Nanty Glo, son of the late Stephen G. and Clara A. (Stager) Olexo. Survived by loving wife, the former Florence (Angello) Olexo, Nanty Glo; children, Katrina, wife of Carl Murowski, Twin Rocks; Dr. Steven M., married to Dr. Faranak Moghadan, Annapolis, Md.; and Sean, and fiancee, Holly Griffith, Indiana, Pa.; stepchildren, Charles A. Kist II, married to the former Wanda George, Johnstown; and Linda, wife of Eugene Wentz, Johnstown; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Hogan, State College; sister-in-law, Louise Herdon, Johnstown; brother-in-law, Ronald Angello, Sarasota, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews; also his beloved cocker spaniels, Satchmo and Polo. He was affiliated with St. Marys Church, Nanty Glo. Retired coal miner from Bethlehem Mine Corp. as a mine safety inspector and was in charge of all mine rescue teams. He received his certification from Penn State University as a first grade mine foreman, electrician and EMT. He also worked for Mine 32, Revloc, and Mine 33, Ebensburg, as a dispatcher; and worked for Clifford Smith & Son Electric. He was an Air Force veteran, having served as a jet engine mechanic. Steve was a member and former vice president of Nanty Glo Polish Club and Nanty Glo American Legion. Life member of Nanty Glo Fire Company with 55 years. He also belonged to the Cambria County, Central District, Western District and State Firemens Association. Member of Knights of Columbus and 4th Degree member of Assembly 954 in Johnstown, and Herbert B. Day Ex-service Mens Club Post 5211, Vintondale. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where liturgical wake will be held Friday and where Nanty Glo Fire Department will hold there service at 6 p.m. Friday. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Marys Church, the Rev. Father Martin A. Cingle, celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Marys Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nanty Glo Fire Company or Blacklick Valley Ambulance Association. Veterans service will be conducted by local veterans association
