Robert Carl "Butch" Mardis

Robert Carl Mardis “Butch”, 77 died May 9, 2026 at home. Born May 24, 1948 in Belsano to James and Elizabeth (Anderson) Mardis. He married Lois (Jean) Smith on April 3rd, 1971. They were married for 49 years, until her death on March 9, 2020. He is also preceded in death by his parents. Survived by daughters Kimberly and Amy, grandchildren: Isiah and Caleb Laughard and Preston Ritzer. Sister Sharon (Russell) Roles; sister-in-law Sally Smith (Gary Lech) and brother- in-law Fred (Bonnie) Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his faithful companion, Dusty the cat. Graduated from United High School. Employed by Bethlehem mines (#31 and #33) until their closure. Proud member of UMWA. Retired as a heavy equipment operator, after working many years at the Colver Power Plant. Enjoyed working, spending time with family and friends, maintaining his home and yard and reminiscing about the “good old days.” He was kind hearted and always willing to help others. Viewing to be held Tuesday May 12, 2026 from 6PM-8PM at the Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo. Private service to be held at a later date.
